Dear Friends,
There comes a time in life when you know it’s time to turn the page and begin the next chapter. For both Rockafeller’s and me, that time has come. On Sunday, November 2, 2025, our restaurant will serve its final meal at 308 Mediterranean Avenue.
As I began writing this letter, I was flooded with memories. First and foremost, of the hundreds of incredible people who have been part of our Rockafeller’s family over the years. Every workplace has its challenges, but working alongside our servers, cooks, hosts, runners, and everyone in between has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life. I’ve watched so many of you grow up here, finish your education, start families (with some of your children eventually donning an apron here too). You have shaped this place as much as I have, and I thank you for being part of the Rockafeller’s story.
To our guests, many of whom have become dear friends, it’s difficult to find the right words. We’ve been with you through life’s milestones: weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthdays, business gatherings, and celebrations of life. You’ve made Rockafeller’s part of your family traditions, and for that, I am endlessly grateful. Your loyalty and support have carried us through every storm and every success. You comforted me during loss, offered wisdom as I raised my children, celebrated our victories, and reminded us of the importance of community in every sense of the word.
To our vendors and partners, thank you for being our backbone. You’ve supplied, guided, taught, and stood beside us for decades, often going above and beyond when things didn’t go as planned. Many of you have become true friends, and your support has meant the world.
As we prepare to close this chapter, my heart is full of gratitude for the memories we’ve shared, the lessons we’ve learned, and the people who have made this journey possible. Rockafeller’s has always been about more than seafood and sunsets. It has been about connection, tradition, and the enduring spirit of Virginia Beach.
Though the doors will close, the legacy of what we’ve built together will carry on — in the lives we’ve touched, in the memories made here, and in whatever comes next. I’m excited to see what the future holds and deeply thankful for the role each of you has played in this story.
With heartfelt appreciation,
BJ Baumann
After 35 incredible years, Rockafeller’s will be closing its doors on November 2nd. While change is never easy, we’re deeply grateful for every guest, every memory, and every moment shared by the water.
We’re not done yet, though! We invite you to join us over the next few weeks as we celebrate this final chapter together.
